Full Job Description
La Jambe is looking for a cheesemonger for our Union Market bar/deli. To help us establish La Jambe as a benchmark in retail cheese, we are looking for an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and passionate individual.
In addition to serving wine, we also have a full bar (featuring only French or local spirits) and a menu that includes classic French dishes, cheese, charcuterie, and seasonal French specialties. We are a small group of passionate professionals who own and operate La Jambe, a French wine bar, in Shaw, Northwest DC.
About two years ago, La Jambe opened a second location at Union Market in Northeast DC. There is a small bar in this area with a take-out menu for freshly packaged cheese and charcuterie as well as a dine-in menu.
We are looking for a candidate who has the following:
experience working in a cheese, deli, or specialty store for at least a year
strong cheese knowledge
strong understanding of charcuterie
understanding how to use a manual slicer
Having experience pairing wine and cheese is a plus.
the capacity to offer customers recommendations
This restaurant has a small kitchen, a small staff, and an extremely close-knit ownership/management group. This job is not for you if you want to work in a corporate environment.
